So you inspired me to make turkey divan when friends came over last night for dinner:) my husband was a bit nervous since this was the first time and he had never heard of it🤔. Delish!!
OMG. We used to say "She's a Campbell's Soup cook" in the most negative tone! I know someone who now uses cans and jars of stuff from Trader Joe's to compose dishes and thinks she's a great and creative cookQ
You say so much in so few words, Amie. An early marriage summarized, plus a recipe card that summons memories for the rest of us--especially of our own inherited recipe boxes!
I remember those days hahaha. For some reason, most of my collected recipes from those early days were for appetizers. I guess I was holding a lot of parties.
That recipe card - even the handwriting itself - looks so much like my mom’s! Her recipe box wasn’t lucite, but it was a sturdy plastic that served as a bookend to keep her small collection of cookbooks upright on a pantry shelf. Wow, brings back memories - nostalgia, but not in the form of a meal.
So much about this that I love. Transported me to my auntie’s mobile home. Yes! to all of the descriptors. The recipe box rule: must contain 1/3 casseroles, 1/2 baked goods, and 1/6 aspirational/inspirational recipes likely never made. But the ones with names assigned are generally quite good. ❣️ ~ Leigh
I so love these recipe card microstories!
Yes I did…there was a moment where I thought I could make it a Midwest hot dish and put tater tots on it! 😊

I’m impressed! Did you feel like you stepped back in time? 😆
Great memory. I love my stash of recipes from my mil especially since she just passed away at 93 yo in September.
There's something comforting in reading and touching these old gems, isn't there? I enjoyed your recent post about your collection!
Breathtaking writing, Amie - I absolutely loved this post. 😊
Do they still make recipe cards, I wonder. Or is there an app for that? 😂
I have some beautiful recipe cards from Rifle Paper Co.
Thanks for the rec. Their stuff is gorgeous!

Yes, squared. And you bet your ascot I have both.
Nice story about the past. LOVED IT. 💝
I have some of the exact same, illustrated recipe cards from my mom. I remember well those casserole days. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
Casseroles and crockpots--the essentials of vintage cooking!

We need to talk. I’ve been dying to have a gathering featuring appetizers from the 70s!
For 70s appetizers, I think a cheese ball would be a necessity!

Food for thought, maybe?

I can see I need to make a tab for “aspirational dishes”. Good one, Leigh!
