Announcing the launch of Cook & Tell, a new foodletter about cooking, family and life on a Maine island.
Some of you have already met my mother, Karyl Bannister, through the stories and sketches I’ve shared in this weekly newsletter, the micro mashup. And some of you—or your moms or dads or grandparents, even—subscribed to her newsletter. If you’re a new reader, here’s a recap: my mom wrote and illustrated the original Cook & Tell foodletter for thirty-plus years, working her way into the hearts and kitchens of thousands of home, hobby and professional cooks all over the world.
As years turned to decades, she became a local celebrity, parlaying that monthly newsletter into a book deal, all the while still publishing her newsletter. And all without the internet or social media.
Although she recently passed away from Alzheimer’s, my mother’s legacy lives on. As a tribute to her talent, I’m rebooting Cook & Tell. Together, we’ll be mixing up small batches of witty stories and fanciful illustrations, along with recipes from the archives, as we elevate simple home cooking to a unique art form. You’ll also be able to share your own adventures and recipes in our cooking community!
If you’re already a micro mashup subscriber, you’ll automatically receive Cook & Tell twice a month for FREE, starting January 3. You’ll also still receive the mashup each Friday.

Looking forward to it!
I am so excited about this very special reboot!
